Dear Parents:
February is here and we are already into the second semester of the 2009-2010 school year. Many of you have set goals with your children to ensure a successful second half of the year. Let us work together to create a positive learning community that enables all of our children to grow.
Midwinter break is almost here. It is the week of February 15 - 19, 2010. Along with this vacation comes many opportunities for you and your child to share new discoveries in reading. It is a good time to help your child understand the value of reading in everything we do. There are many activities that you and your child can share together that will help reinforce the skills learned in the classroom as well as stimulate many positive experiences with reading. Keep reading with your child, regardless of their age. let your child know that vacation time also means reading time. Take trips to the public library or your favorite bookstore. Provide your child with some quiet reading time. Set aside fifteen or twenty minutes each day for your child to relax and curl up with a good book. (Be sure to take the "quiet reading time" for yourself, too!) Enjoy this special time with your children.
Have a great midwinter break!
Rhonda Mienko
