	2009 Holiday Luncheon

Page Middle School - Lamphere's Page Middle School celebrates the holiday season each year by inviting senior citizens from the community to a performance by the Page choir and band followed by lunch. "We look forward to the annual luncheon at Page every year." said Barb Geralds. "Excellent music, good food, and great company. This is the only time we see some friends throughout the year."

	Oakland University Trip

Just before Thanksgiving, the 7th graders at Page Middle School visited Oakland University. They had an excellent time taking a first hand look into campus life! Highlights of the trip included the campus tour, visiting a dorm room, and lunch in the student center. As a follow up activity in Language Arts class, the students are completing a write reflection titled “Why I Want to Attend Oakland University.” The Mission of Page Middle School is to prepare all students for a post-secondary education and these trips play a vital role in accomplishing that mission.


	Page Student Earns All-State Honors

Congratulations to eighth grade principal clarinetist Amber Miller on her successful audition to the MSBOA Middle School All-State Honors band. This is the highest honor a middle school musician is able to attain in the State of Michigan. Amber, a member of the Page Concert Band and the Page Jazz Band, will perform along with other top middle school musicians at the Michigan Music Conference on January 23, 2010.


	6th Grade Wayne State Trip

The 6th grade students visited the campus of Wayne State University on Wednesday, November 11, 2009. They had the opportunity to tour the athletic facilities and speak with various professionals regarding their careers and required education for the positions. The students also toured the main campus to see campus life and the dormitories. It was a beautiful day and a great learning experience.


	Eastern Michigan University Trip

The 8th Grade Students at Page got a glimpse of college life, as a great group of students from Eastern Michigan University shared their experiences and took our students on a tour of the campus. They even got to try dormitory food, which, today, means things like Taco Bell and Subway. They saw things from the dorm rooms to the lecture halls, from the pool and fitness center to the library, where some watched a robot find books for students from a selection of over a million books. The weather was perfect and the kids were great. Now they can begin making their college dreams a reality.

	Parents' Guide to Career Development

We have a valuable resource available for parents seeking help in providing their children with the information they need to make career and education decisions. It's called "Parents' Guide to Career Development." This four-part video workshop resides on the MyDreamExplorer website; it was developed with a Microsoft Corporation grant to Michigan Virtual University.

The parents' guide online workshop features John Williams, former director of the Michigan Department of Career Development, who presents an insightful look at learning and preparing for a career in our new world economy. His expert advice is dispensed in four parts totaling approximately 50 minutes:

Key Concepts of Career Development
Relevance: The Fourth 'R"

	Principal's Corner - 2009-10

Parent/Teacher Conferences: November 2009

It hardly seems possible that Thanksgiving and our Fall Conferences are upon us. Conferences will be held on November 23rd and 24th from 1:00 to 3:00 and from 6:00 to 8:00 both days. Conferences will take place in the cafeteria and teachers will be sitting alphabetically around the perimeter. In order to make these conferences as productive as possible, please consider the following:

Decide in advance what you want to ask the teacher. It's a good idea to jot down points you would like to discuss so they don't slip your mind.

Ask your child if there is anything they would like for you to discuss with their teachers.

Be willing to answer questions about your child's homework habits and their feelings about school. This helps the teacher approach working with your child in a more effective way.

Find out how you can help your child at home.

We try and limit conferences with individual teachers to about 5 minutes. Remember you have six teachers to see.

While this may be obvious, it is worth stating that lines will be much shorter during the afternoon conference sessions. I would encourage you to attend during the 1:00 to 3:00 time frame if that works in to your schedule.
