 |
Greetings,
Lamphere High School-Home of the Rams!-is thankful for the supportive community and network of people that make possible the opportunities our students have. At Lamphere, we have nearly 850 students in grades 9-12. Our students are offered a wide-range of academic choices and can become involved in a number of clubs, music, athletic, and theater experiences.
Our students are expected to represent their school and community well and do so in a positive way. We strive to prepare our students for success and achievement no matter what their future endeavors may bring. We all take great pride in serving the students and community of The Lamphere Schools. Families are encouraged to participate at LHS and enjoy the sense of Ram-Pride that lasts a lifetime.

HELP YOUR STUDENT ACHIEVE |

Mediocre Semester Grades? How Can You Help Your Student. You recently received your student's report card - were you pleased or shocked at what you saw? If it was the latter, don't worry, there's still time to help your child improve and learn. The time you take and the support you provide now will help your teen whether they go to college or workforce training after high school. After reading your student's report card, take a breath and talk to your student. You may want to ask:
- Do you feel this grade reflects your best effort?
- Did you turn in all your homework on time? If not, what was the penalty for turning in late homework? How can I help you learn to meet deadlines?
- What is your teacher's policy about incorrect answers on homework and exams? Will your teacher allow you to turn in the corrected answers for partial or half credit?
- Do you understand the material? If not, will your teacher meet with you to review and answer questions? Are free tutors available at your school? Do we need to consider hiring a tutor?
- Do you have any distractions or barriers that keep you from listening, taking notes, or completing homework? How can you avoid them?
- Can you describe the tests (essay, multiple choice, or other)? What are the best ways to prepare for the exams? What percentage of your grade do tests represent?
Armed with some basic answers from your child, you can formulate a strategy for fostering improvement. For help and free resources, check out the ACT November 2009 Parent Newsletter at http://www.act.org/path/parent/news/1109.html#3 and read the Homework Motivation or Why Go to College website articles, or read the ACT student blog for advice from high school students. |
