The LIfe at the Extremes expedition is the first ever to have one of its principal scientists take part entirely through telepresence - Dr. Kelley will participate from her command center at the University of Washington in Seattle, while Dr. Ballard will be aboard the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration's research vessel Ron Brown.
Lamphere students will participate with many other scientists and educators along with other students from around the world. All hoping to discover more about the extraordinary new hydrothermal vent community and what secrets it may hold about the beginning of life here on earth.
