HISTORY:

  • In 2008 the Lamphere Athletic Boosters started a scholarship opportunity to be awarded to ONE MALE and ONE FEMALE SENIOR; based on academics and athletics each year.  A $500  scholarship for ONE MALE and ONE FEMALE SENIOR will be awarded in 2013.

ELIGIBILITY:

  •  Student must have at least a 2.5 GPA.
  • Athletes must have participated in at least one sport for four years at LHS.
  • Athlete must have displayed a mutually acceptable code of conduct amongst his/her peers.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Student must attend a panel interview.
  • A wallet size senior picture must accompany essay (picture will not be returned).
  • A brief letter of recommendation from a coach, teacher or administrator must be included.
  • An essay decribing how high school sports have affected your life (Max. 1 page).
  • Essay must be type written.

LAMPHERE ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP SCORING

The awarding of the Lamphere Athletic Scholarship shall be determined by various scores based on a panel interview, GPA, sport(s) participation, and an essay.

PANEL:

  • A five member panel will decide the recipient of the award.
  • No immediate family member with a competing student-athlete may sit on the panel.

GPA:

  • Students will receive 1 point for every 1.1 pt. above a 2.5 GPA based on 7 semesters.
  • Formula: points earned = (GPA - 2.5) * 10.

SPORTS PARTICIPATION:

  • Athletes will receive 1 point for every season he/she participated in a sport.
  • Two sports in one season shall count as 2 points.
  • Athletes will receive 0.5 points for every athletic varsity letter earned.

ESSAY:

  • Each panel member shall read each essay and score it on a 0-10 point scale.
  • The score received shall consist of the average of panel members scores.
  • Decimals will be rounded.

INTERVIEW:

  • The interview shall be done individually and not last more than 30 minutes. 
  • Each member will have up to 5 minutes to question each competitor.
  • Panel members can give up to 10 points per competitor.
  • All panel member's scores will be added together to get interview score.
